Here's a picture of me out on a dayhike on Islay Creek Trail in
Montana de Oro State park.  My rig is a complete set of nylon ALICE
web gear purchased from "S.L.O. Camp `N Pack". The mag pouches
carry small bits of kit, such as signal mirror, fire starters, flashlight,
multi-tool, etc. The butt pack carries First aid kit, Esbit stove, Gorilla
Tape and 550 paracord, etc. A light jacket and poncho are slung
beneath the butt pack. Two canteen covers, canteens and cup. I
presently carry a T.O.P.S. "Battle Cry" side knife but am planning to
replace this with a G.I. hatchet/cover. This rig is super-comfortable
and carries everything I would need in an emergency situation. I plan
to use this rig for a planned climb up Mount Whitney later this year.

Carried my camping gear in/on my Camp `N Pack purchased Swedish
M38 rucksack [see pic].  Awesome rucksack...old school construction
from canvas and leather.  Very comfortable with the external frame all
for  $20 bucks. The leather straps on the side of the bag [intended for
ski poles I think] work great for carrying a camp knife.

Dinner was made on a folding stove with ESBIT fuel and canteen cup
from Camp `N Pack [see pics].  Found that one Esbit tablet will make a
fairly warm meal, but wouldn't boil with my stove. I've read similar
reports elsewhere about Esbit. Have had better luck with Trioxane but
it's getting hard to find. I carry some foil in my canteen cup to cover the
top and make a heat dam around the stove, both to help trap heat. I'd
also recommend a thin scouring pad in the bottom of the cup for
cleanup.
